Dr. Mark Shaw (who is such a laid back and fun guy that I have a problem associating "doctor" with him- though he is smart as can be) heads the recovery classes on Thursday evenings for The Village, Transformed. He sent me the following email, and I want to toss it out to you guys. Many of you may be interested, particularly as we move into Southtown and have the possibility of expanding the need for counselors.

If you know anyone who is interested...
I am teaching an Intro level class for Truth in Love Ministries in January and February of 2009. The format is a Friday night/Saturday day schedule. Fridays are 6-9 pm and Sat. are 9-3 pm. January 16th-17th, Feb. 6th-7th, and Feb. 27th-28th. This is Track 1. (A Track 2 class will be taught in April of 2009, also.)
If you know of anyone who wants some basic training in biblical counseling and can commit to all 3 weekends, then they MUST contactshirley@histruthinlove.org to sign up. The syllabus for the course is online at www.histruthinlove.org and there is no cost for the class. CLICK HERE to find out more information about the class and directions for signing up!
Also, we are also offering a Lay Counselor Training course through Birmingham Theological Seminary at Bethel Baptist Church in Moody on Sunday evenings beginning on January 18, 2009. This option allows people to get seminary credit and will count toward NANC certification. Those who wish to sign up for this course need to contact dsmith@bethelnet.com to register. There is a cost for those who want seminary credit or NANC. Dr. Luis Orteza is teaching this course at Bethel.
Both of these courses are introductory level courses and will help people to grow in their walk with Christ. We are simply calling the first class "Helping Hurting People."
Serving Christ with you,
Mark
